We can always trust God to do what He said because He is a promise keeper!I want to continue discussing the following lyrics from the song, “Way Maker,” originally written by award-winning gospel singer Osinachi Kalu Okoro Egbu (known professionally as Sinach): “You are / Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper / Light in the darkness / My God, that is who You are.” Links to the other posts of this series are at the end of this post.

Today I want to talk about God being a promise keeper. God not only makes promises, but He keeps them. Numbers 23:19 states, “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” This verse asks two rhetorical questions which basically tell us that God does what He says and He fulfills His promises.

Some people are good at making promises, but circumstances out of their control may prevent them from keeping their word. God is not like that. If He said He will do something, nothing can stop Him from doing what He said. God made many promises to the Israelites, and He kept them all. Joshua 21:45 declares, “Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”

Likewise, God will keep every promise He has made to us. If we are going to benefit from God’s promises, we must know them. To find out what God has promised, we must make the time to read the Bible regularly. Here are a few of God’s precious promises:

  • The promise of God’s presence. Hebrews 13:5 says, “God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’”
  • The promise of God’s forgiveness. First John 1:9 tells us, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
  • The promise of salvation. Romans 10:9 lets us know, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

After we know the promises of God, we must believe them. We can believe God’s promises because they were made by a God who is faithful and trustworthy. If we can’t trust anything or anybody else, we can always trust God to do what He said because He is a promise keeper!

Which of God’s promises are the most meaningful to you? Let me know in the comments.
