We should thank God every day, not just on Thanksgiving Day or during a specific time of year. The United States has declared the fourth Thursday of November to be “Thanksgiving Day.” This day is a time when we can identify and celebrate the things in our lives for which we are grateful.

But when we think about the goodness of God and all He has done for us, we will quickly realize that God blesses us too much to limit our gratitude to Him to a single day or time of year. Ephesians 5:20 says, Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

According to this scripture, we should always thank God. Thanksgiving should be more than just a yearly event—it should be a way of life. Every day that God allows us to live is a gift and should be a day of thanksgiving. What if God only allowed you to breathe on the days you thanked Him? How often would you breathe? Could you take a breath today? Think about it.

Some people may feel like they don’t have anything to be thankful for. Indeed our lives are not perfect, and we might even be going through trouble and difficulty right now. But if we look hard enough, we will find something for which we can thank God. The one thing everyone can thank God for is sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross so our sins can be forgiven, then raising Him from the dead so we can have eternal life.

When it comes to thanking God, we know we should express our gratitude to Him verbally with our lips. But more than that, we should demonstrate how thankful we are with our lives, by obeying God’s Word and doing what pleases Him.

How will you show gratitude to God today? Let me know in the comments.
