Thank God for His Goodness

Sometimes we can hear a phrase so often that it becomes a cliche’,God is good because He gives us salvation through Jesus! and we don’t respond to it like we should. One such phrase is, “God is good all the time and all the time God is good!”

We know God is good because there are several verses in the Bible that tell us so. One such verse is Psalm 107:1 (NIV) which says, “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

We may say God is good because He gave us health and strength, met our material needs, and blessed things to be well with us. But since some people deal with health challenges, live in poverty, and have very difficult lives, material things cannot be the basis for saying God is good. (more…)

Do Your Best for God

I like sports. Whether it’s basketball, Do your best for God!baseball, football, tennis, or any other sport, I marvel at how the athletes continuously push themselves to be better and better. They put forth extra effort so they can be the best they can be.

This made me think about our spiritual lives. Is our service and devotion to God listless, insincere, lukewarm, and even mediocre? Or are we on fire for the Lord, giving Him 100% of ourselves, and doing the very best we can for Him?

Second Peter 1:5-8 say, “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.” The key phrase in this passage is “make every effort.” (more…)
