This is Part 3 of my 7-part series on why Christians shouldn’t worry. You can find links to the other parts of the series at the end of this post.
The third reason Christians shouldn’t worry is because God promised to supply all our needs. Philippians 4:19 (NASB) says, “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
One of the things that causes us to worry is when we are afraid our needs will not be met. Some examples of unmet needs that could make us worry are not having enough money to pay a bill and needing a job to support our family.
In the verse above, there are three phrases that should help us not to worry when it looks like we will not get what we need.
- “God will supply” – God is reliable, dependable, and trustworthy. In addition, the word “will” implies a promise and brings with it a guarantee which removes all doubt and uncertainty. Therefore, if the Bible says God will supply, we can rest assured that He will.
- “All your needs” – What will God supply? All of our needs! Whatever needs we experience on this side of heaven–whether financial, material, physical, emotional, or spiritual–God will supply them. However, we must distinguish between our needs and our wants. God promises to supply all our needs, not our wants. But He may, out of His grace, give us some of the things we want.
- “According to His riches” – God’s “riches” speak to the fact that He has an unlimited amount of resources at His disposal, and therefore, He can meet our needs in a variety of ways. As a result, we should not put God in a box as to how we want Him to supply our needs. We must allow Him to provide for us on His own timing and in the way He knows is best.
What unmet needs are you waiting for God to supply? What can you do to increase your faith in Him while you wait? Tell me about it in the comments.
