This is Part 4 of my 7-part series on why Christians shouldn’t worry. You can find links to the other parts of the series at the end of this post.
The fourth reason Christians shouldn’t worry is because worrying shows a lack of faith in God.
One of the negative consequences of worry is fear. We sometimes worry and become fearful when we are in a situation where we don’t know what is going to happen to us or our loved ones.
One day Jesus was in a boat with His disciples when a storm came up. The disciples became anxious and fearful and thought they were about to drown. Jesus, seeing their anxiety, asked them, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:40, NIV).
As believers who proclaim that we serve a sovereign, loving, wise, all-powerful God, our lives should be characterized by faith and trust. When we worry and become afraid about something, we are basically telling God we don’t have faith in Him. On the other hand, the more faith and trust we have in God, the less we will worry when the storms of life arise.
The next time we allow worry and fear to invade our hearts and minds, let us hear the words of Jesus asking, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
In what areas of your life do you need to exhibit more faith and less fear? Tell me about it in the comments.
