Sometimes we can hear a phrase so often that it becomes a cliche’,God is good because He gives us salvation through Jesus! and we don’t respond to it like we should. One such phrase is, “God is good all the time and all the time God is good!”

We know God is good because there are several verses in the Bible that tell us so. One such verse is Psalm 107:1 (NIV) which says, “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

We may say God is good because He gave us health and strength, met our material needs, and blessed things to be well with us. But since some people deal with health challenges, live in poverty, and have very difficult lives, material things cannot be the basis for saying God is good.

Ultimately, God is good because He gave us the forgiveness of our sins and eternal life through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our verse for today tells us God’s love endures forever. It was God’s love that moved Him to send Christ to die in our place and take the punishment that we deserved. John 3:16 (NIV) states, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Regardless of how much of this world’s goods a person may or may not have or regardless of whether a person is healthy or sick, God is good because He gave everyone the opportunity to believe in Jesus and have everlasting life.

Instead of just saying, “God is good,” we should reflect on the goodness God demonstrated when He made a way of salvation for us. Our verse says, “Give thanks to the LORD.” When we truly understand how good God is, it should cause us to express our gratitude to Him in the way we live our lives and how we serve Him.

What will you do to show God how grateful you are for His goodness? Tell me about it in the comments.
