Happy New Year! God has brought us into a new year and for that, we should be thankful! One way we can express our gratitude to God is by making a commitment to put Him first in our lives. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Here are some ways we can put God first:
- Start each day with God. If we are going to put God first, we must literally acknowledge Him the first thing every morning. When our eyes first open, we should praise God and thank Him for blessing us to see another day, rather than reaching for our mobile devices, checking email, or getting on social media. We should also spend some time talking to Him (in prayer) and listening to Him (by meditating and reading the Bible).
- Submit to God’s will. Sometimes, we are concerned about doing what we want to do when we should be focused on doing what God wants us to do. If we are going to put God first, we must seek His purposes for our lives, then give His purposes priority over our plans.
- Sacrifice for God. If we are going to put God first and submit to His will, we must be willing to be inconvenienced and get out of our comfort zones. Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacrifice when He died so our sins can be forgiven. The least we can do is sacrifice our time, energy, and resources so we can live for Him and do what is pleasing in His sight.
What will you do to remind yourself to put God first every day of your life? Tell me in the comments.
