Traffic signs aThere is only one way to heaven: through believing in Jesus Christ's death and resurrection.re designed to regulate, warn, and guide drivers. However, these signs can also teach us some important spiritual lessons. This is part 1 of my 5-part series on “Lessons from a Traffic Sign.” You can find links to the other parts of the series at the end of this post.

Today, I want to talk about the “one way” sign, which indicates that a street allows traffic to travel in only one direction. Spiritually, this sign reminds us that there is only one way to get to heaven, and that is through believing in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Some people may believe they can earn salvation by what they do. However, Ephesians 2:8-9 tell us, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” We can’t work enough, obey enough, or do enough to earn salvation. Salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ. Referring to Jesus, Acts 4:12 declares, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Even though we cannot earn salvation, thank God that He loved us so much that He gave us eternal life by sending Christ to die for us. John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

How should we respond to God’s precious gift of eternal life? By being obedient to what He tells us to do. Just as we obey a “one way” sign to stay safe and on course, we should obey the commands God gives us in His Word so we can stay on a path that pleases Him.

In summary, the next time you see a “one way” traffic sign, I pray that it will…

  • Remind you that there is only one way to get to heaven, and that is by believing in Jesus Christ.
  • Reassure you that God loves you because He sent Jesus Christ to die in your place.
  • Motivate you to be more obedient to God as your way of thanking Him for sending Jesus so you can have salvation.

What is “one way” you can tangibly and practically demonstrate your gratitude to God for giving you eternal life through Jesus Christ? Let me know in the comments!
