In my previous post (click here to read it: https://joeyaperry.com/put-god-first/), I talked about putting God first. If God is first in our lives, we will make time to do the things that are important to Him and which strengthen our relationship with Him. Two disciplines that will enhance our relationship with God are Bible study and prayer. Today’s post focuses on Bible study. Joshua 1:8 tells us, “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
If we want to grow closer to God and know how He wants us to live, we must make time to read and meditate on His Word. We are all busy with our families, jobs, church obligations, and many other things. But let’s not try to justify the fact that we didn’t read the Word of God by saying we didn’t have enough time. If we are too busy to read the Bible, then we are just too busy!
Humanly speaking, when you love someone, you enjoy spending time with them. Likewise, if we really love the Lord, we should enjoy spending time with Him in His Word. Psalm 119:97 says, “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.” In addition, Psalm 119:16 states, “I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.” Do you love God’s Word and delight in it? If so, don’t neglect it; make the time to read and meditate on it every day.
Reading and meditating on the Word of God are essential, but there is more we need to do with the Bible if we want to show God that He is first in our lives. What more do we need to do? I will talk about that in my next post!
If you are not spending regular and consistent time in God’s Word, what is keeping you from doing so? Tell me about it in the comments.
