This is Part 2 of my 7-part series on why Christians shouldn’t worry. You can find links to the other parts of the series at the end of this post.
The second reason Christians shouldn’t worry is because worrying won’t make the situation better. In Matthew 6:27 (NIV), Jesus said, “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
Worrying is nothing but a big waste of time and mental energy! Think about it. When was the last time worrying improved your circumstances? Has worrying ever made your problem go away or helped you feel better or gave you some relief? Probably not. (more…)

Worrying is something many people do. I know I’ve done it and perhaps you have, too. Worry means to “give way to anxiety or unease; allow one’s mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles.” In many cases, what we worry about either has not happened or is something we have no control over anyway!

Aug 14, 2021 | Commitment, Spiritual Growth
Years ago, the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) coined the phrase, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” Likewise, a life is a terrible thing to waste. We waste our lives when we selfishly do what we want to do and not what God created us to do. God has a purpose for each of His children and we are wasting our lives when we don’t fulfill His purpose for us.
We fulfill God’s purpose in two ways. First, we fulfill God’s purpose by obeying the commands He gives to all Christians in His Word, the Bible. This underscores the importance of regular and consistent Bible study. If we don’t read the Bible, we won’t know what God expects us to do.
The second way we fulfill God’s purpose is by doing the things He has specifically called and gifted each of us to do. This second way will be the focus of this post. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” In addition to the commands that are applicable to all Christians, there are some things God specifically designed each individual believer to do. Following are three things we must do to fulfill God’s specific purpose for our lives.

In the world of sports, athletes are always trying to get better. Even the best athletes in the world, who are already at the top of their games, look for ways to improve.
The same should be true of Christians. We should not be stagnant in our walk with the Lord. We should constantly seek ways to up our game for God, crank up our commitment to Christ, and go to the next level for the Lord.
Despite being one of God’s most effective servants, Paul was always striving to be better. In Philippians 3:12-14 (NIV), he said, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Paul was not satisfied with where he was spiritually. He wanted to go higher and higher in the Lord. We should have that same desire.
As Christians, we always have room to grow. I want to encourage each of us to make a commitment to do better this year than we did last year. Let us do a personal assessment to identify how we can improve in our relationship with God. Following are just a few areas where we can up our game for God.
