Put God First!

One way we can express our gratitude to God is by making a commitment to put God first in our lives.Happy New Year! God has brought us into a new year and for that, we should be thankful! One way we can express our gratitude to God is by making a commitment to put Him first in our lives. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Fulfill God’s Purpose for Your Life

We should always seek to fulfill God's purpose for our lives.

Years ago, the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) coined the phrase, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” Likewise, a life is a terrible thing to waste. We waste our lives when we selfishly do what we want to do and not what God created us to do. God has a purpose for each of His children and we are wasting our lives when we don’t fulfill His purpose for us.

We fulfill God’s purpose in two ways. First, we fulfill God’s purpose by obeying the commands He gives to all Christians in His Word, the Bible. This underscores the importance of regular and consistent Bible study. If we don’t read the Bible, we won’t know what God expects us to do.

The second way we fulfill God’s purpose is by doing the things He has specifically called and gifted each of us to do. This second way will be the focus of this post. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” In addition to the commands that are applicable to all Christians, there are some things God specifically designed each individual believer to do. Following are three things we must do to fulfill God’s specific purpose for our lives.

What Is Your Response to God’s Reminders?

I have a confession to make… I can be pretty forgetful. Sometimes I forget small, minor things, but other times I forget big, important things. Do you struggle with a similar problem? Because I am so forgetful, I take advantage of technology and set reminder alarms on my phone. When the alarm goes off, it reminds me to take action on some task.

Many times, reminders are necessary to make sure we do what we should do. But if I get a reminder alarm about an activity and don’t do anything when I hear it, then that reminder really didn’t do me any good. A reminder is helpful only if it causes us to do something. In other words, every reminder must be accompanied by a response.

Every year, believers recognize two foundational days in Christianity: Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday (Easter). These days are God’s reminders of what He did in Jesus Christ to secure eternal life for us. Good Friday reminds us of Jesus’ death on the cross as He sacrificed Himself to pay the penalty for our sins. Resurrection Sunday reminds us that God raised Jesus from the dead to provide salvation for us. (more…)
