Every Christian should make the study and application of the Bible a priority in their life. If we are committed to the God of the Word, then we also will be committed to the Word of God! There are several criteria that we can use to do a self-assessment to determine whether or not we are truly committed to God’s Word.

Seven characteristics of people who are committed to God’s Word:

1. They learn it. (Psalm 119:7)
Believers must make time to study God’s Word on a daily basis.

2. They obey it and live according to it. (Psalm 119:8-9)
God gives us the power through His Holy Spirit to obey Him.

3. They memorize it. (Psalm 119:11)
It is important to memorize God’s Word so we have it when we need it, either to minister to ourselves or someone else.

4. They rejoice in obeying it. (Psalm 119:14)
After all God has done for us, we should count it a privilege to do as He commands.

5. They meditate on it. (Psalm 119:15)
We should not just read the Word; we should seriously think about it and allow it to get deep into our very being.

6. They delight in it. (Psalm 119:16)
We should enjoy studying the Bible; we should not look at it as a chore.

7. They don’t neglect it. (Psalm 119:16)
If the Word of God is important to us and is a priority for us, we will not neglect it.

When we are committed to God’s Word and govern ourselves according it, Psalm 119:2 says we will be blessed: “Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart.”

Make a commitment to God’s Word and be blessed!
